Title: Teaching English Using Chants and Music and Movement
Content Area: Reinforcement of English Structures, pronunciation,
idioms and vocabulary.
Purpose:
To introduce teachers to chants and songs and activities that
will joyfully inspire children to learn and improve their English
skills.
Workshop Description:
This participatory workshop will introduce teachers to the concepts of
expanding their teaching of English to primary children by
incorporating music into their program. Chants and music and
movement can aid memory retention, phrasing, expansion of vocabulary,
diction, inflection and overall pronunciation in a fun way.
Songs, chants and movement activities can give practical and physical
support to their teaching. Here teachers will learn how to use
lyrical
lessons and
Pam’s musical materials to provide the opportunities for their
children to painlessly rehearse
and gain positive reinforcement of English structures,
pronunciation,
idioms and vocabulary in a vibrant and exciting atmosphere.
Teachers will also learn how to create their own grammar chant, a
vocabulary chant or a chant designed to develop everyday conversational
skills. Pam will discuss the creation and performance of songs
and the use of rhythm and simple movement as tools for language
development.
Preferred Room Setup.
Participants would preferrably be seated in a circle or in chairs
in rows. Tables would inhibit the opportunities for movement.
